I've chosen to do my rhetorical
analysis paper on the chapter 4-C article, The Globalization of
Poverty. I feel that the article does a poor job at convincing the
audience. He first starts out with an intro about September 11th,
2001 and what the government officials are doing to try to “counter
terrorism”. Well that interesting but if you read the rest of the
article there is no where else that he brings up September 11th.
I think that the intro didn't really fit in with the rest of the
article. From the intro I get the idea that he will tell us what we
should do to counter terrorism but he does no such thing. He argues
that globalization will make poor people poorer. What does that have
to do with terrorism? A point in his argument was how the IMF was not
working. Do you know what the IMF is? Me either. He throws out those
terms expecting us to know what they mean. To me not knowing what he
was talking about killed that argument for me. A big portion of his
article is all these facts about how the gap between the poor and
rich hes increased. He throws out all these facts and numbers but
fails to explain how globalization is the reason for it. The big no
no that the author does is he does not give any suggestions or
present any plans on how to fix it. Hes just another one of those
writers that criticize the ones in charge but has not the mind to fix
it.
